We made our annual getaway to Whidbey Island for some camping at Deception Pass last week. It couldn’t have come at a better time, as we’ve now stepped into our busiest time of the year: the last half of our weddings this season is taking place within seven weeks, two being destination. This year has blown me away. The lovely thing about Whidbey Island is that once we’re there, not much else seems to exist. Apart from those you’re with, the smell and warmth of campfire, bicycle rides to the beach, salty fresh air. Those few days were a welcome break from the routine of the everyday and being plugged into the world through a laptop or iPhone. I mean, we had our challenges…how many layers can one person wear to ward off the cold evenings, protecting our dinner from a rainfall of pine needles when the wind picked up, the threat of a sunburn.
