With thankful hearts for our travels in Europe, we are home and happy to be. We set off without much of an itinerary, only knowing we wanted to be home in time to spend Thanksgiving with my family. I’m lucky in that we get double the thankful celebrations with having both Canadian and American backgrounds. Growing up, the holiday didn’t mean so much to me…it meant turkey (which I wasn’t crazy about) and it meant that my dad signed me out of school early so I could watch the Cowboys play and for that, it felt special. These days, I’m happy to say that while I love carrying on that tradition of watching football with him, Thanksgiving has grown into more than the food we eat and the TV we watch. As we traveled about and were surrounded by some of the most beautiful cities and landscapes, I was reminded of how those experiences don’t carry the same beauty without someone to share it with. At the risk of sounding cliche, it’s sharing and enjoying life with the people we love that makes life truly beautiful, wherever in the world you may be. And so it made me thankful for our travels and our home all at once. When we were young and traveled as a family, my dad would often wake early to catch the sunrise with his camera…and so as I caught myself racing out of bed to do the same, I thought of him and smiled. To my American friends and family, Happy Thanksgiving! xo
