This past weekend we had the super fun opportunity to attend a couples’ cooking class at The Dirty Apron in the city. Our Christmas gift from dear friends (cheers to extending Christmas until June!), we all attended together and made a night of it. Overall I learned two things: that Shane and I are actually capable of making a pretty decadent meal, and that we are actually capable of working well together in the kitchen ;) On the menu was a warm goat cheese & apricot cake with grilled pear and prosciutto salad, followed by a roasted whole cornish game hen with a grainy mustard pan jus and truffle thyme risotto. Talk about fancy! And then dessert. The trio of desserts. Grand Marnier creme brulee, chocolate souffle, and chocolate dipped strawberries. Something tells me that if we tried recreating this meal at home it wouldn’t go quite so smoothly or take as little time…but even if the experience amounts to making a killer creme brulee (or getting Shane to make the roasted hen again!), it was more than worth it.
