I would love to hear more about how you found your style. I’m currently just beginning and I find myself admiring lots of beautiful work from other photographers, but I can’t quite get mine how I want it. Any tips for going through this process? The way I see it, your style is something that is a continual work in progress, even if subtle. Your style is something that you learn the more that you shoot. The more you shoot, the more you see what you like and what you don’t like…what you’re drawn to, and what you like to avoid. For example, I’ve discovered that I’m more drawn to lighter backgrounds and elements in my photos as I love achieving a light, airy feel to them. While your style is very much defined in how you shoot – lens choice, composition, use of light, posing, etc. – editing also plays a role. Experimenting in Lightroom until you achieve the look you love is another way in which to find your style. More contrast vs less contract, cooler temperature vs warmer, etc. And when you find the right combination of edits in Lightroom, save it as a preset to ensure consistency for future photographs. The beautiful thing is that everyone see things differently so every photographer develops their own style. As much as we can look to one another for inspiration, ultimately it comes down to how we each see and document things :) Feel free to comment below if you have any questions for a future FAQ post, or if you have any thoughts on finding your photography style. Happy Thursday!
