This past weekend Isaiah turned a month old, and it had me sharing a few extra snuggles with him, and gazing a little longer at his tiny, perfect toes. Already his smallest of clothes are packed away as he’s put on more than a couple pounds as of a week ago. Many of the days and nights of the past month are a blur. But all I want to do is soak in his newness and breathe in his soft scent, remembering these first days with our son and first days being a mom. Lingering in bed in the morning with my boys is my favourite…after getting a string of two hour stretches of sleep throughout the night we decide it’s finally time to start the day. Isaiah is bright eyed and we have some good family time of snuggles, conversations and a smile here and there from our little. And there’s coffee, dark and strong. It’s true what they say, that you can’t prepare for what it’s like to become a parent; you hear of the sleepless nights but until you battle through a night feeding with your eyes crossed from fatigue, sometimes going through two diaper changes at a time and then praying your baby settles and falls asleep until both mama and baby are crying, you don’t know the weight of those words. But then that sweet babe locks eyes with you and you melt for him all over again…and that other stuff fades into the background. I was afraid I wouldn’t be up to taking photos with tending to a newborn but I literally have hundreds of photos of Isaiah from his first month.
