We walked the ramp towards the airplane, looked at each other with the look that said, let the adventure begin…unsure of how we would make it to Chicago by flying standby with sold out flights and a long night of traveling ahead. But thanks to one no-show and a pilot who let Shane fly jump seat, we made it on all three flights just as we hoped! 12+ hours later found ourselves being greeted by family in Chicago, with maybe a few short hours of sleep between the two of us. Post showers and naps, we set out to explore the area. Which included a train ride into the city where we walked the streets looking for a fun place to eat. Two things I love about exploring a new place: taking photos and discovering delicious food! The latter being very necessary because for some reason I get hungry a LOT and when I get hungry, I don’t get happy. Shane makes fun of me, fearful of me becoming “hangry”… though I wonder how much of it is to cover up annoyance? In our search, we hopped on a bike taxi (hello tourists!) and the guy dropped us off at a street lined with restaurants, one of which was a live jazz bar. There we nourished ourselves with a thin crust margherita pizza and then lingered to enjoy the music. Over the last couple days and with all the roaming that has taken place, I’ve decided I could be very happy living here. Illinois? Sure! Narissa and Ashi live in the quaintest little town of Wheaton, a 45 minute train ride from the city. I love it! So much history and so much character. We drive the tree-lined streets and every other house I could easily dream of living in. And when we scoped out the location where we’ll be taking wedding photos come Sunday, I just about died…that place, paired with my new 50mm 1.2L lens (eek!)…I’m in love.
