We took a lot from our wedding day. Joy, the love of dear friends and family, countless moments stored in our memories. Not to mention photographs and film that will preserve those memories and that day for years to come. We also took away two Starbucks mugs, props used by our pastor to symbolize his four-point sermon. It was titled Brewing a Perfect Marriage…because, you know, we do love our coffee and our Starbucks… 1. The true taste of friendship 2. The refreshing aroma of forgiveness 3. The patented logo of loyalty 4. The secret blend of faith Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Ecclesiastes 4:12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him – a threefold cord is not easily broken. So when it gets hard (and it does!) and when it takes work (and it does!) these mugs, these points, these verses, serve as a reminder. To be honest, I don’t remember much else from the sermon other than it was relevant and really good…but I do remember one thing Pastor Dave said and it was to “race each other, be the first to make the other smile in the morning”. And I thought, I like that. We still have yet to use these mugs for actual coffee! I don’t want to have to wash them and risk losing the words written on them. I’m not sure that there is such a thing as a perfect marriage, but I know that with the Lord as our center and the ‘builder’ it will be the best it ever can be.
