For a time there, the month of June on my calendar was strangely quiet. Eerily so. No weddings? Engagements?? I saw it as a breather before the summer wedding rush, but I had a feeling it was perhaps for another reason. Like, God had in store other opportunities that would pop up and fill those blank days. And so it begins and…
I need your help!
Showit Live is being hosted in Vancouver this month and I’ve agreed to be interviewed next week! Did I mention it’s live?? Be still, my heart.
My question for you is…what should we talk about? There will be some general questions asked and then we’ll get into the topic of the day – the topic that we – you and I ;) – need to come up with. I thought it would be more fun this way, getting your input, finding out what people would actually be interested in hearing about.
Comment below with your ideas and in turn for your help, everyone who does will be entered to win an iTunes gift card!
In other news, now I know why I have issues with my back. Must work on better posture…
Happy Wednesday!

Hi Mikaela :)
Congrats on your interview! Where can we watch…on he Showit site?! :) hmmm…as far as a topic to talk about…[other than the usual: how do you attract more clients, how do you grow your business, etc.] what about shooting in not-so-perfect weather? We’re not all in sunny southwestern USA! :) Or, how about helping clients relax in front of the camera so you can photograph their true emotions with each other?

Sweet opportunity. Don’t get to nervous you’ll do great I’m sure. I will be sure to check it out :)

CONGRATS on the Live interview, M! U’ll rock it!!
Here are some:
01 | What’s the one big thing you were most fearful of when starting out, and looking back now after being this far in your career/ journey, realize it isn’t a big deal, and has served you well with other obstacles/fears?
02 | If you could wave your magic wand & make anything happen in your business, what would you make a reality today?
03 | Imagine it’s 3 years from today, the year 2015, and if you could have a Starbucks coffee date with your current self, what would you share with you about what has transpired in 3 years and what to look forward to and what minefields to avoid?
04 | After capturing so many precious moments from the lineup of all your gorgeous clients and having the wisdom of what really matters in producing priceless end results, what’s the best advice you would share with a new & nervous couple who have a million and one questions in their heads and want brilliant results from their session with you?
05 | What are the top questions all clients don’t ask you but should? What do you feel they need to know?
Hope these are helpful :)

I’m always amazed at how every photo shows your clients personality, love, and natural expressions (no fake laughing and no fake posing!) So, how do you do that? :) Thanks for the giveaway! Please pick me!

How about yoga for photographers – to relax those bad backs :o)
…just kidding… I would love to know when you knew it was time to make that “leap” and say ‘I’m going to be a full time photographer.’
And what’s the best advice you can give a newbie on getting the perfect website/blog combo going? Preferably without breaking the bank.

Hey – this is brilliant. Ok, possible topic – how about the client/photographer relationship and the step throughs they take with you, from them booking you as their photographer to receiving their album.. x

Congrats on the interview! That’s exciting.
I am always curious about how full time or part time photographers find balance in their personal time because they may feel like they could ALWAYS be at the computer editing or doing another project. I just know that’s how I felt when I was doing my masters, sometimes it consumed me and I had a hard time breaking away and feeling free of it while I was at home and the laptop was there, accessible :).
Also, for some photographer starting out, when and how do you become confident enough to take the plunge and develop your own photography skills and go full time with it? How do you make that decision and what variables need to be considered?
Good luck with the interview!

Congratulations on the interview Mikaela, I’m sure you’ll do great!I really like the idea above about the client/photographer relationship. I’d love to hear what your favorite part of the process is, how you handle those tricky “bridezilla” moments, how you go about capturing the couples’ personalities on the big day. Good luck! :)

Oh Mikaela, that is so amazing!! So very proud of you…
I think that marketing makes your business, so crucial especially at the beginning. We knew how good you were but you needed to communicate that to the rest of the world and I think you and Shane did an amazing job of that. From your Starbucks engagement to your beautiful website the marketing was firmly on it’s way to showcase your talent…all the best!

I’m sure you will kick that interview in the butt! I think a good topic for the interview would be how you became such a successful full time photographer! When did you first find your love for photography, did you go to school for something other than photography, start a job under that major and then slowly become a full time photographer? You’re so good and I’d like to hear about your journey!
Ashlee says
Talk about how you got into photography and where you’re going with it (everyone loves big dreams and they are scary to share!), the first picture you ever took, your favorite picture you’ve taken, etc.
Nadine S. says
My actual questions is – where did you get that dress in the first shot? It’s adorable.
Then – what do you talk about with your clients when you meet them? why is what you’re talking about imperative to their wedding photography?
Lyndi R. says
Congratulations! The interview sounds like it will be fantastic!
I would love for you to talk about your first shooter/second shooter relationship with your husband. I love to hear how you balance your relationship with him and your personal relationship. My husband is learning to be my second shooter, and it so important to me to maintain that balance.
Thanks again! And good luck, I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully! – L

Hey Mikaela! About time you get interviewed! I am so excited for you! You are such an amazing person and photographer and I am so excited for you to shine this way!
I would love to know when you decided to stop your part time job and go for it. Did you have loads and loads of clients or did you decide you had to stop your other job to let photography become it?
Jillian Tree says
So excited to watch you on ShowitLive! Hmm I’d love to hear about your branding & how you figured it out, I love it! :)
