It’s the same every year…we leave behind the comforts of home for…the comforts of glamping ;) The same Whidbey Island, the same Deception Pass State Park with its towering trees, the same beach with its scattered driftwood logs. The same blissfully free days of no work, laptops or phones. Time with family around the campfire, bicycling to the beach, watching sunsets over the water, and indulging in a lot of food. This year, however, our familiar routine was shaken up by that which you dread when sleeping in a tent: rain. And plenty of it. Constant downpours of it. Thankfully the sun still managed to peek through each day, and our tarps managed to keep us dry (for the most part). We had our umbrellas and we had our books and wellies. We got to make new memories that included hours of rolling thunder and lightening. We would sit around the campfire in the darkened woods and watch as the entire sky was lit up, silhouetting the trees. And, same as every year, the time we spent away was just what I needed. After an August with six weddings and a handful of shoots, the break was a breath of fresh air and provided the rest I needed to head into another busy month feeling refreshed. But just because we were enjoying a mini holiday, certainly didn’t mean I put down my camera… Grateful my sister Whitney knows a thing or two about using my camera for times like these… …and for a husband who doesn’t always take himself too seriously… Our camping trip conveniently fell over Shane’s birthday…and we love nothing more than a reason to celebrate… It also fell over the first weekend of another NFL season (to think we almost stayed home as a result!) It’s no secret that one of my favourite parts of camping is all the reading I get to do…finished one book and dove into this one and so far? SO GOOD! Until next year!
