Sometimes it’s hard to peel myself away from my desk during wedding season…but on this particular afternoon, I was so glad I did. My sister Whitney and I packed up a picnic lunch and drove out to Cultus Lake to soak up the last of summer’s sunshine.
It was all too perfect: a deserted bay, the ground blanketed with crunchy leaves, promising us that Fall was around the corner, and still,
the warmth of the sun on our skin. Waves lapped and the sound of leaves falling from the trees could be heard.
Whitney was supposed to get married earlier this month, but she and her fiancé Manolo are up against some patience-stretching challenges. To sum it up, Manolo had to return to his hometown in Mexico to work out his permanent Canadian residency from down there. Meanwhile, immigration offices have gone on strike. The end is not yet in sight and oh do we miss Manolo…especially his wife-to-be who took it so bravely when she had to postpone her wedding indefinitely. However, Manolo and Whitney are trusting their future to the one in whose hands it rests…
Said Manolo on what was supposed to be their wedding day: “…Only good thing is that I’m not here because I made the plan, but because God is preparing something really special for me, and I’m cool with that…” When their wedding day does arrive, you can be certain it will be quite the celebration!!
It hasn’t been an easy journey, but this day…this day was a good day…

My husband and I had a very long engagement, and were not able to set a date until two months before we got married! But, as you say, God’s plans and timing are perfect. Looking back, I wouldn’t change our journey at all.
On a side note, I must say that your personal photos have me daydreaming about moving my little family to Canada. It looks so heavenly beautiful!

What a beautiful day.
My husband and I had to postpone our wedding for a year due our own set of “patience-stretching challenges”. My sympathies to Whitney, I know hard and frustrating it is. It’s wonderful that you are there for her, Mikaela. I was certainly grateful for my sister in that time.

Beautiful post, Mikaela. That sister relationship is special – I love mine, too!
