It happens every year, same place, same time. Computers and cell phones and the comforts of home are abandoned and replaced with camp fires and tents and fresh air. It’s an annual thing for my family to head off into the woods of Deception Pass on Whidbey Island and retreat for a few days and this year it was fun to have a few new campers join us :) There were big breakfasts cooked up each morning, a week long tournament of bean bag toss (another new addition this year, one that us girls rolled our eyes at…but yet enjoyed in the end), there were bike rides and afternoons on the beach, hikes and fun and interesting conversation around the campfire at night. There was time to rest and with that time, Shane and I day dreamed of things like one day owning an Airstream camper and SUV – and making the kids sleep in the tent – and driving down the Oregon Coast and such. We dreamed of what our life will look like before those kids come, and of other, farther, across-seas travel plans for the future. The great thing about dreaming with Shane is that he dreams big and yet sees it as our reality one day and I’ve come to believe the same. That’s the lovely thing about getting away, you get space to breathe and think and let your mind entertain all kinds of fun ideas (without interruptions from your iPhone). And spend quality time with some of your favourite people, of course…
