It’s been a crazy, fun, sometimes intense, past several weeks. There was Quebec City, Vegas for WPPI, followed by the Virgin Islands less than 24 hours later, and less than a week after that, I had lasik eye surgery. Figured I was due for a good, old fashioned cold so I write this curled up on the couch with a foggy head. But that’s not the point. The point is…I have new eyes! My old vision had no bearing when I picked up the camera, but freedom from glasses and contacts made the decision simple. Especially after hearing about a great clinic in Vancouver. The procedure went well – though uncomfortable – and the following few hours of recovery weren’t pretty. I was lucky to have Shane by my side (for better or worse!) holding my hand, forcing and keeping schedule of the (million) eye drops, and going out for food runs. By the evening, my vision had dramatically improved and since I couldn’t do much of anything (ie read, watch tv, use a computer) we listened to music and a spontaneous dance party kinda, sorta, maybe happened…Shane knows just how to cheer me. You can imagine my delight when, going for breakfast at Starbucks the next morning, I could read the menu board with no help from contacts or glasses for the first time in forever. I feel as though we’ve had a year’s worth of excitement, though we’re only at month #3. I’ll be lying low for the next few days but after that, much more is in store.
